Bharat Bandh On Feb 12: Nationwide Shutdown Likely

Banks, schools, transport and offices to be hit; essential services exempted

February 11, 2026: The country is bracing for major disruptions on February 12 as trade unions press ahead with a nationwide strike expected to impact daily life across states. Government offices, banks, educational institutions, transport services and commercial establishments are likely to remain shut for 24 hours, with industrial and agricultural activities also facing a pause. Markets may stay closed and public movement could be restricted due to limited transport availability.

Organisers have clarified that essential services will continue to function. Hospitals, pharmacies, ambulances, fire and rescue services, milk distribution and newspaper delivery are expected to operate normally. Airports and ATMs will remain open, though commuting may be difficult. Pilgrimage centres such as Sabarimala and the Maramon Convention have been exempted, with specific panchayats in Kerala kept outside the shutdown to avoid inconvenience to devotees.

The strike, backed by central trade unions, farmer groups, Left parties and several sectoral unions, has been called to protest against the Centre’s labour reforms and economic policies. Union leaders claim the new labour codes weaken worker protections. While over 30 crore workers are expected to participate nationwide, the BJP-backed BMS has distanced itself from the protest. In states like Kerala, normal life is likely to be significantly affected despite exemptions for emergency services.
