Class 7 student killed in Sitamarhi, bystanders loot fish instead of helping
January 16, 2026: A tragic road accident in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district has sparked outrage after bystanders displayed shocking insensitivity at the crash site. The incident took place near Jhajhihat village under the Pupri police station limits, where a speeding pickup truck hit Ritesh Kumar, a Class 7 student, as he was heading to his morning coaching class. The boy, also known as Golu, died on the spot due to the impact, leaving his family devastated.
As Ritesh’s parents and relatives arrived and mourned the loss of their child, attention at the scene shifted to the pickup truck, which was carrying a consignment of fish. Following the collision, the fish spilled onto the road. Instead of helping the grieving family or alerting emergency services, several people gathered and began looting the fish, stuffing them into sacks and fleeing, even as the child’s body lay nearby.
Police from Pupri station reached the spot soon after being informed, dispersed the crowd and took custody of the body, which was sent for post-mortem examination. The pickup truck involved in the accident has been seized, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, including the circumstances of the crash and the conduct of those present at the scene.
