Joint police operation in Begusarai and Darbhanga cracks down on robbery gang, recovers weapons and stolen jewellery

April 5, 2026: Six accused involved in a major jewellery loot were arrested after a brief encounter in Bihar, during which one suspect was injured. The operation was conducted jointly by the Special Task Force and local police teams from Begusarai and Darbhanga. Authorities recovered firearms, live cartridges, mobile phones, motorcycles, and looted silver jewellery from the accused.

According to Director General of Police Kundan Krishnan, those arrested include Aryan Kumar, Avinash Kumar Sahni, Mangal Kumar, Gautam Kumar Sahni, Vicky Kumar Paswan, and Pawan Jha, while another accused, Mangal Singh, sustained injuries during the encounter. The gang had allegedly looted around 700 grams of gold, 20–25 kilograms of silver, ₹10 lakh in cash, and multiple mobile phones from a jewellery shop in Darbhanga’s Big Market on April 3.

Acting on intelligence inputs, police tracked the suspects to a hideout in Begusarai. When confronted, the accused attempted to flee and opened fire, prompting retaliatory action by the police in self-defence. During interrogation, officials also uncovered the gang’s involvement in another robbery at an Axis Bank branch in Hasanpur on March 24. Further investigation is underway to probe their wider criminal network.
