Nitish Kumar announces mobile land registration service from April 2026
January 13, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced a major relief for elderly citizens, stating that people aged 80 years and above will soon be able to register their land or flats from the comfort of their homes. The facility will be provided through a mobile registration unit run by the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department. Applications can be submitted online, and the new system will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
Explaining the decision, the Chief Minister said senior citizens often face significant hardship while completing registration formalities. The move aims to ease their inconvenience and reduce unnecessary physical strain. He also highlighted that land buyers frequently lack access to accurate and updated property information. Under the new arrangement, the Registration Department will collect land-related details from zonal offices and share verified information with buyers before registration, ensuring greater transparency.
Nitish Kumar said the initiative is part of the “Saat Nischay-3” programmes launched after the formation of the new state government on November 20, 2025. The seventh resolution, “Sabka Samman – Jeevan Aasan”, focuses on simplifying citizens’ daily lives. Inviting public participation, the Chief Minister urged people to share suggestions related to the new system by January 19, 2026, expressing confidence that the measure will benefit both senior citizens and the general public.
