Biker Dies After Falling Into Open Pit in West Delhi
Late-night accident in Janakpuri sparks safety concerns over unattended civic works
February 6, 2026: A late-night commute turned fatal in west Delhi’s Janakpuri after a motorcyclist fell into an open pit allegedly dug for water board-related work. The victim, Kamal, a resident of Kailashpuri, was returning home from Rohini when the accident occurred. His family grew alarmed when he failed to reach home and stopped responding to calls, prompting an overnight search across hospitals and police stations.
The search ended tragically the next morning when police informed the family that Kamal’s body had been found inside a deep excavation pit along with his motorcycle around 7:30 am. Preliminary information suggests the pit was part of ongoing civic work and may not have been adequately secured. It remains unclear whether proper barricades, warning signs or lighting were in place at the site.
The incident has reignited concerns over public safety at construction zones across the capital, particularly during night hours. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine whether negligence was involved and if mandatory safety norms were violated. Residents and the victim’s family have questioned how such a hazardous pit was left exposed on a public road, calling for stricter accountability to prevent similar tragedies.
