Containment Measures Begin After H5N1 Detection In Kerala Village
March 19, 2026: Bird flu (H5N1) has been confirmed in Ward 7 of Muhamma, triggering immediate containment measures by authorities. The outbreak has prompted officials to plan the culling of over 5,000 birds to prevent further spread of the infection. The response is being carried out as per the Government of India’s 2021 action plan for avian influenza control.
An emergency meeting chaired by District Collector Inbasekar Kalimuthu brought together officials from multiple departments to coordinate preventive and control strategies. Authorities are focusing on restricting movement, sanitisation drives, and surveillance in and around the affected area.
Officials said strict measures are being enforced to contain the virus and protect nearby poultry farms and residents. The situation is being closely monitored, and further steps will be taken depending on how the outbreak evolves in the coming days.
