After abandoning her family, a woman from Hardoi eloped with a beggar; police recovered her and are now investigating the circumstances behind her disappearance.
January 7, 2025: In a bizarre incident from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, a 36-year-old woman named Rajeshwari allegedly abandoned her husband and six children to elope with a 45-year-old beggar, Nanhe Pandit. The incident sparked confusion and concern in the local community, eventually leading to a police investigation after her husband, Raju, filed a complaint.
The Incident:
According to Raju’s complaint, his wife left home on January 3, telling their daughter Khushboo that she was going to the market to buy clothes and vegetables. However, she never returned home. Raju claimed that Nanhe Pandit, a beggar who frequented their neighborhood and often conversed with Rajeshwari over the phone, was responsible for her disappearance.
Raju also stated that Rajeshwari left with money earned from selling a buffalo, adding a financial blow to the family’s plight.
Police Investigation:
After receiving the complaint, police registered an FIR under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with cases of abduction with intent to compel marriage or illicit relations.
Senior police officer Shilpa Kumari confirmed that Rajeshwari has been found and her statement is being recorded. However, Nanhe Pandit is still on the run, and police are actively searching for him.
Legal Perspective:
Under Section 87 of the BNS, any person who kidnaps or abducts a woman with the intent to compel her into marriage or illicit relations can face up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
The law also covers scenarios where criminal intimidation or abuse of authority is used to induce a woman to leave her home for such purposes.
