
BJP Dominates Haryana Local Polls, Wins 9 Out of 10 Mayoral Seats; Congress Faces Defeat in Hooda Bastion
March 12, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the Haryana local body elections, securing nine out of ten mayoral positions, including in Gurugram and Rohtak, the stronghold of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda. The only non-BJP victory came in Manesar, where rebel BJP leader Dr. Inderjit Yadav won as an independent candidate.

✅ BJP Wins Big: Secures 9 out of 10 mayoral seats, marking a decisive victory.
✅ Congress Falters in Hooda Bastion: The party loses Rohtak, a key stronghold, by over 45,000 votes.
✅ Low Voter Turnout: Haryana witnessed a disappointing 41% turnout, much lower than the 68% recorded in the Assembly elections.
✅ Key Wins for BJP: Gurugram, Rohtak, Ambala, Faridabad, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Yamunanagar.
✅ Congress’ Poor Show: The party fielded candidates but failed to secure a single mayoral seat.

🔹 Gurugram: BJP’s Raj Rani won by over 1 lakh votes, defeating Congress’ Seema Pahuja.
🔹 Rohtak: BJP’s Ram Avtar won with a massive lead over Congress’ Surajmal Kiloi.
🔹 Ambala: BJP’s Shailja Sachdeva defeated Congress’ Amisha Chawla.
🔹 Faridabad: BJP’s Parveen Joshi beat Congress’ Lata Rani.
🔹 Hisar: BJP’s Praveen Popli secured victory over Congress’ Krishan Singla.
🔹 Karnal: BJP’s Renu Bala Gupta won against Congress’ Manoj Wadhwa.
🔹 Panipat: BJP’s Komal Saini beat Congress’ Savita Garg.
🔹 Sonipat: BJP’s Rajiv Jain defeated Congress’ Komal Dewan.
🔹 Yamunanagar: BJP’s Suman won against Congress’ Kirna Devi.
🔹 Manesar: Independent candidate Dr. Inderjit Yadav, a BJP rebel, secured victory.
🗳️ Voting was held across major cities on March 2, with Panipat voting on March 9. Bypolls were conducted for mayoral seats in Ambala and Sonipat.
🗳️ 26 ward members were elected unopposed across multiple municipalities.
With this resounding victory, the BJP strengthens its grip on Haryana’s urban governance, while the Congress struggles to regain ground ahead of the 2029 Assembly Elections.
