The election was fiercely contested, featuring heavyweight candidates like BJP’s Parvesh Verma battling against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi and AAP’s Atishi taking on BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji.
Celebrations at BJP HQ
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda arrived at the party’s headquarters to celebrate the win. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to join shortly, marking the momentous occasion.
“This is a victory of Sanatan Dharam and the leadership of Modi,” said Acharya Pramod Krishnam, a former Congress leader, underscoring the ideological undertones of the BJP’s campaign.
Congress’ Continued Decline
The Congress party, which once ruled Delhi for 15 years, failed to make significant gains, further diminishing its political relevance in the capital. Critics within the party attributed this to Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, calling for introspection and strategic overhaul.
Implications for Opposition Bloc
The INDIA bloc, formed to counter the BJP nationally, faces fresh cracks after this loss. The internal bickering between Congress and AAP, along with varying support from regional allies, highlighted the bloc’s fragility.
As BJP solidifies its grip on Delhi, this victory underscores the party’s growing influence and sets the stage for future national and state elections.
