Bharatiya Janata Party unveils ‘Sankalp Patra’ for Tripura tribal council polls, promises language recognition and development push
April 5, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday released its manifesto for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled for April 12, outlining a roadmap focused on cultural preservation, economic growth, and social welfare. A key promise includes granting formal recognition to Kokborok and other indigenous languages, along with a proposal to rename the council as the Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council. The party also pledged to establish democratically elected village committees and introduce measures to protect indigenous traditions and customary laws.
The manifesto places strong emphasis on women and youth empowerment, proposing handloom and handicraft training centres across all zones, strengthening Self-Help Groups, and increasing the number of “lakhpati didis.” It also promises educational and employment initiatives, including skill development programmes, girls’ hostels in indigenous districts, a medical college in Dhalai, and nursing and paramedical institutes in Khumulwung. Plans for a football academy, martial arts training, and support for young entrepreneurs are also part of the development agenda.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed confidence about the party’s prospects, stating that the BJP aims to form the government in TTAADC for the first time. He reiterated the party’s commitment to development and accused rivals of resorting to violence. Meanwhile, former MP Rebati Tripura highlighted that the manifesto includes 29 key promises, with a strong focus on linguistic identity and overall progress of tribal communities.
