After a 10-month delay, the ruling party gears up to name JP Nadda’s successor as internal elections near completion across key states.

April 1, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to announce its new national president by the end of April, according to party sources. The process, pending for nearly 10 months, was delayed due to the ongoing Parliament session and the Lok Sabha elections.

So far, 13 state presidents have been named, and the remaining—including key states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal—are expected to follow within a week.

🔍 What’s the Process?

  • Organisational elections at booth, mandal, and district levels are prerequisites.
  • Elections must be completed in at least 50% of states before a national president can be elected.

⚖️ Who Will Succeed JP Nadda?

  • JP Nadda, who became BJP’s president in January 2020, had his term extended till June 2024.
  • Now part of the Union government, his successor will need to tick several boxes:
    • Be acceptable to the RSS
    • Fit the right caste equation
    • Balance north-south sensitivities
    • Address language and delimitation divides

The BJP also aims to revive its support base in UP, especially after setbacks in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
