Sankalp Patra outlines jobs, welfare expansion, and legal reforms ahead of polls

March 31, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday released its manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, laying out a roadmap focused on employment, welfare, infrastructure, and legal reforms. The document was unveiled in Guwahati in the presence of Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior leaders.

Highlighting key promises, Sarma said the party would move forward with implementing a Uniform Civil Code while exempting Sixth Schedule and Scheduled Tribe areas. He also stressed strict action on law-and-order issues, including what he termed “Love Jihad.” The manifesto commits to generating two lakh jobs over five years and tackling floods with an investment of ₹18,000 crore in the initial phase. It also proposes a “One District, One Institution” model, aiming to establish a medical college, university, and engineering college in every district.

On the welfare front, the party has pledged expanded financial support for women and households. This includes ₹25,000 assistance under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme and an increase in Orunodoi scheme benefits from ₹1,250 to ₹3,000 per month. During the event, Sarma also targeted Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, urging disclosure of alleged overseas assets, adding a political edge to the manifesto launch.
