BJP Uses 2007 T20 Bowl-Out Win to Troll Pakistan After Operation Sindoor

May 16, 2025: In a sharp blend of cricket nostalgia and political messaging, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday took a swipe at Pakistan by drawing a symbolic comparison between India’s famous 2007 T20 World Cup bowl-out victory and the recent success of Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian armed forces.

The BJP shared a 31-second clip on social media from the thrilling India-Pakistan clash during the inaugural T20 World Cup, where the match had ended in a tie and was decided via a bowl-out. In that iconic moment, Indian players Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Robin Uthappa all hit the stumps, while Pakistan’s Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, and Shahid Afridi missed their attempts, giving India a clean 3-0 victory.

Captioning the post with “Kuch aisa tha (It was something like that). Operation Sindoor,” the BJP drew a pointed analogy — comparing Pakistan’s complete miss during the bowl-out to its failed retaliation attempts following Operation Sindoor.

The cricket-themed post came just days after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian citizens. The operation targeted nine terror camps linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reportedly neutralizing over 100 terrorists.

Following the Indian strikes, Pakistan attempted a retaliatory response using drones and missiles aimed at Indian military and civilian targets. However, none of the projectiles reached their targets, as India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted every threat — a failure the BJP subtly compared to Pakistan’s bowl-out blunders from 2007.

The post cleverly fused national security and sporting pride, evoking memories of India’s early T20 glory while reinforcing the message of India’s strategic and military strength.

The escalation came to a halt with a ceasefire agreement on May 10, but the war of narratives continues online — this time, with cricket as a metaphor for defence might.
