January 7, 2026: A female BJP worker was allegedly assaulted while being detained by police in Hubballi Karnataka on Tuesday with claims that her clothes were torn during the incident. The woman identified as Sujatha alias Vijayalakshmi Handi was taken into custody amid tensions between Congress and BJP workers over voter list revisions in the region.
Video footage circulating online shows Sujatha surrounded by police personnel inside a bus where she is seen resisting detention. The BJP has accused officers from Keshavpur police station of manhandling and custodial abuse and has demanded a detailed investigation. The visuals have triggered sharp political reactions and criticism from party leaders.
According to reports the detention followed a complaint by Congress corporator Suvarna Kallakuntla linked to earlier clashes during the voter list revision exercise. Sujatha has denied interfering in the process and refuted allegations against her. Police are yet to issue an official statement as preliminary inquiries continue.
