The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) officially announced on Monday that non-Hindus will be prohibited from entering the Badrinath and Kedarnath Dhams. This new regulation also extends to all other subsidiary temples currently under the committee’s administration in Uttarakhand.

Maintaining Sanctity
The decision, which was finalized during a high-level committee meeting, aims to preserve the traditional religious sanctity and cultural decorum of these ancient pilgrimage sites. This move follows a series of discussions regarding the management of crowds and the protection of the Sanatan Dharma traditions during the peak pilgrimage season.
Scope of the Ban
- Primary Locations: Shri Badrinath Temple (Chamoli) and Shri Kedarnath Temple (Rudraprayag).
- Other Temples: All other temples managed by the BKTC, including the winter seats of the deities.
- Enforcement: Stringent identification checks and verification processes are expected to be implemented at entry points leading to the shrines.
The committee has stated that the decision is rooted in the long-standing demands of local priests (Tirth Purohits) and various religious organizations who have sought stricter entry protocols to ensure that the spiritual environment of the Char Dham remains undisturbed.
