Bomb Threat at Delhi Stadium After Operation Sindoor: DDCA Confirms Security Scare

Arun Jaitley Stadium receives email threat following India’s cross-border strikes; DDCA and BCCI emphasize player safety and national solidarity as IPL is temporarily halted.

New Delhi, May 10: A major security scare erupted on Friday after the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received a bomb threat via email at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, directly referencing retaliation for India’s military operation “Sindoor” against terror camps in Pakistan.

The threat, received between 11 and 12 AM on DDCA’s official email ID, warned of an attack at the stadium. “It was clearly written that there would be retaliation at Arun Jaitley Stadium in response to Operation Sindoor,” said DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma.

The email triggered an immediate security response, with the bomb squad arriving swiftly to search the premises. After a thorough inspection, the venue was declared safe with no explosive devices found.

The alarming incident came just hours before the BCCI officially suspended the remainder of IPL 2025 for one week, citing national security concerns amid growing Indo-Pak tensions. DDCA welcomed the decision.

“Stopping the IPL was necessary. The army is on the frontlines; this is the time to boost their morale,” Sharma said. “How can we continue playing cricket when our soldiers are facing attacks at the border? The whole nation stands with the armed forces, and so should every cricketing body.”

The Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at Dharamshala was also halted midway on Thursday amid heightened threat perception. Spectators were asked to evacuate the stadium, and both teams were quickly escorted to their hotel under tight security.

Sanjay Sharma from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) explained that coordination with local authorities had already anticipated a possible disruption. “Everyone was alert. The match was called off in time to ensure safety.”

The BCCI later arranged a special Vande Bharat train to safely transport the players and broadcast crew from Dharamshala to Delhi.

As Operation Sindoor continues to unfold in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Indian cricket finds itself impacted — not just on the field, but in standing firmly with the nation.
