Bomb Threat Emails Sent to Parliament, 9 Schools; Security Tightened
The national capital was plunged into a security frenzy on Monday morning after the Indian Parliament and at least ten prominent schools received chilling bomb threat emails.
The messages, sent between 7:22 AM and 9:00 AM, warned of synchronized explosions and contained provocative, separatist rhetoric.
The emails, purportedly sent by a group calling itself the “Khalistan National Army,” included the slogan “Delhi BanayGa Khalistan” (Delhi will become Khalistan).
The threats were specific, warning of a blast at 1:11 PM on Monday at the targeted schools and a further explosion inside the Parliament complex at 1:11 PM on February 13. The messages also reportedly named Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as “enemies.”
Emergency protocols were immediately activated across Delhi as fire tenders, bomb disposal squads, and K9 units rushed to multiple locations. Evacuations were carried out at several high-profile institutions, including:
While extensive anti-sabotage checks have so far yielded no suspicious objects, authorities are treating the matter with extreme caution. This incident follows a similar wave of hoax threats that hit over 30 schools in Chandigarh and several in Ahmedabad earlier this year.
Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell is currently tracing the digital footprint of the emails, which are believed to have been sent via encrypted servers to mask the sender’s identity. Security around the Parliament House has been significantly bolstered ahead of the February 13 date mentioned in the threat.
