Security tightened in Jalandhar after emails mention Dera Sachkhand Ballan
January 31, 2026: Bomb threats targeting Dera Sachkhand Ballan and two schools in Jalandhar were reported on Saturday, triggering heightened security measures a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the sect’s headquarters. Police and security agencies acted swiftly after threatening emails were received. Officials clarified that although the emails were sent to schools, the content specifically referred to Dera Sachkhand Ballan, raising concerns due to the high-profile nature of the Prime Minister’s programme.
As a precaution, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs and security personnel were deployed at the locations mentioned in the emails. The premises were cordoned off and thoroughly searched, with authorities confirming that no suspicious objects were found. Police noted that no students were present at the schools as Saturday was a holiday, but stressed that the threats were being treated with utmost seriousness given the timing and references to the Prime Minister’s visit. Cybercrime teams have also been roped in to trace the origin of the emails.
The incident has led to heightened vigilance across Jalandhar, especially around Dera Sachkhand Ballan and key routes likely to be used during PM Modi’s visit. The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Punjab on Sunday to mark the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas. As per the PMO, he will visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan in the evening to pay tributes and address a public gathering, besides unveiling the new name of Adampur airport and inaugurating the terminal building at Halwara Airport earlier in the day.
