BREAKING!! Air India Cancels Ahmedabad-London Flight Days After AI-171 Crash Kills 274

Air India’s decision to cancel flight AI-159 from Ahmedabad to London comes amid heightened concerns after the deadly crash of AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, last week.

June- 17, 2025: In the wake of the horrific Air India crash that claimed 274 lives, the airline has now cancelled its Ahmedabad-London Gatwick flight AI-159 citing “operational issues.” The cancellation comes just days after Air India Flight AI-171, operating on the same sector with the same aircraft model (Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner), crashed seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12.

Flight AI-159 was initially scheduled to depart at 1:10 PM on Tuesday but was later rescheduled for 3 PM. However, by 1:45 PM, Air India officially confirmed its cancellation, causing frustration among passengers. “I was travelling to London… but it has been cancelled. The crew did not provide any reason or refund details,” a passenger told news agency ANI. Airport officials later indicated that arrangements were being made to re-route stranded travelers.

The scrapped flight was also to be operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner — the same aircraft involved in last week’s tragic AI-171 crash, which slammed into buildings near the Ahmedabad airport shortly after takeoff. The incident killed 241 of the 242 people onboard, and at least 33 more on the ground, including students in a college hostel that was struck by the wreckage.

In a symbolic gesture, Air India has retired the “AI-171” call sign as a mark of respect for the deceased.

Since the AI-171 crash, multiple India-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights — including services by British Airways and Lufthansa — have faced disruptions. An Air India Hong Kong-Delhi flight returned just 15 minutes after takeoff due to a “technical issue.” Similar diversions occurred with Frankfurt-Hyderabad and London-Chennai flights.

On Tuesday morning, another Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata suffered a technical snag in the left engine, forcing a precautionary deboarding at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.

Authorities have confirmed the recovery of flight data and voice recorders from the AI-171 crash site. A high-level investigative committee has been constituted to analyze the causes of the crash and recommend urgent safety protocols for Air India’s long-haul operations.
