A320 aircraft returns to Delhi after 2 hours in air; maintenance underway as IndiGo ensures alternate flight for passengers

New Delhi, June 19, 2025 — An IndiGo flight enroute to Leh from Delhi was forced to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Thursday morning after encountering a technical snag mid-air, aviation officials confirmed.

The Airbus A320 aircraft, operating flight 6E 2006, had been airborne for over two hours before the pilots decided to turn back. According to data from Flightradar24, the aircraft was in flight long enough to reach near its destination when the issue emerged.

🛬 Official Statement by IndiGo

“IndiGo flight 6E 2006 operating from Delhi to Leh on 19 June 2025 returned to origin due to a technical issue which caused operational restrictions to land in Leh. As per procedures, the pilot returned back to Delhi,” the airline said in a statement.

The aircraft is currently undergoing necessary maintenance at the Delhi airport. In the meantime, an alternative aircraft has been arranged to ensure passengers are transported to Leh without further delay.

✈️ Other Flight Disruptions Reported

This incident comes alongside multiple flight snags reported this week:

• A SpiceJet flight (SG 2696) from Hyderabad to Tirupati returned shortly after takeoff at 6:19 am on Thursday due to a technical issue, returning safely to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
• On Wednesday, passengers of a Delhi-Raipur IndiGo flight were stuck inside the plane for nearly 40 minutes after landing, due to a delay in opening the aircraft door. Notably, former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Raipur Mayor Meenal Choubey were on board.
