The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had 241 passengers and crew on board, all confirmed dead. However, the rising casualty count indicates that the remaining 33 victims were likely individuals present on the campus of Ahmedabad’s BJ Medical College when the aircraft crashed. These victims are believed to include doctors, students, hospital staff, and local residents from the nearby Meghaninagar area.
The black box, comprising the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), was recovered from the rooftop of the UG and PG students’ mess building within the medical college campus, according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 1) Neeraj Badgujar. The aircraft’s Emergency Locator Transmitter had been found on Thursday night.
Search and recovery efforts continue, focusing on buildings that sustained heavy damage during the crash, along with adjacent areas. Authorities have sent 319 body parts, including both complete and partial remains, for DNA matching to help identify the victims accurately.
Earlier reports confirmed four casualties on the ground, including three doctors and the pregnant wife of a neurosurgery resident. On Friday, a fifth ground victim, MBBS student Jay Prakash Chaudhary, was officially identified by his family.
The investigation and rescue teams remain committed to completing the recovery process and supporting the families of those affected by this devastating tragedy.
