Brinda Karat Slams Nishikant Dubey as “Communal Serial Offender” Over SC, Quraishi Remarks

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat has sharply criticised BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, labelling him a “communal serial offender” over his recent controversial statements targeting the Supreme Court and former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Quraishi.

Karat urged the BJP to go beyond distancing itself from Dubey’s remarks and instead take direct disciplinary action.

“This man is a communal serial offender. First, he attacked the Supreme Court with a deeply communal slander against the Chief Justice, and now he’s targeting the former Chief Election Commissioner in communal terms,” Karat told ANI.

🔥 BJP MP’s Controversial Remarks

Dubey stirred a political storm after accusing the Supreme Court of inciting religious wars and overstepping its constitutional mandate.

“If everything has to go to the Supreme Court, then we should shut down Parliament and State Assemblies,” he said, adding that the judiciary was functioning on a principle of, “Show me the face, I’ll show you the law.”

He further questioned past Supreme Court rulings, citing its decriminalisation of homosexuality, and referred to religious site disputes like Ram Mandir, Krishna Janmabhoomi, and Gyanvapi, making pointed communal remarks on historical mosque constructions post-Mughal era.

🧾 Remarks on Former CEC SY Quraishi

Adding to the controversy, Dubey took to X (formerly Twitter) to launch a communal attack against former CEC SY Quraishi, calling him “not an election commissioner, but a Muslim commissioner” after Quraishi voiced concerns over the Waqf Amendment Act.

🏛️ BJP’s Response

The BJP has officially distanced itself from Dubey’s comments, stating it “completely rejects” his views on the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India. However, no disciplinary action has been taken so far.

🗣️ Karat Calls for Accountability

Karat emphasised that mere disassociation by the party is not enough, arguing that the BJP must act firmly against repeated communal targeting of constitutional authorities.

“BJP’s silence or inaction will only embolden such voices that attack the judiciary and constitutional norms on communal lines,” she said.
