BSNL Reports First Profit in 17 Years, Posts ₹262 Crore in Q3 FY25

Telecom giant rebounds with strong growth in mobility, FTTH, and lease lines

New Delhi, February 15: State-run telecom provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has achieved a major financial milestone, reporting a profit of ₹262 crore in Q3 FY25—its first profit since 2007. The turnaround comes on the back of aggressive network expansion, cost optimization, and customer-focused service improvements.

Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted BSNL’s growth across its three key service areas:
🔹 Cellular mobility: 15% increase
🔹 Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH): 18% growth
🔹 Lease lines: 14% surge

“Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, BSNL is returning to profitability. We are optimistic that revenue will further increase by the end of Q4, while expenditure will remain controlled to significantly reduce losses,” Scindia told reporters.

BSNL’s Rising Subscriber Base & Infrastructure Expansion

BSNL has witnessed a steady increase in subscribers, growing from 8.4 crore in June 2024 to nearly 9 crore in December 2024. The company is also making rapid strides in its network expansion:
75,000 of the planned 100,000 towers have been erected
65,000 towers have been commissioned
All 100,000 towers expected to be fully operational by June 2025

BSNL’s Strategic Focus for Growth

A. Robert J. Ravi, CMD, BSNL, emphasized the company’s efforts to drive revenue growth beyond 20% by the end of the financial year. Additionally, BSNL has successfully:
🔹 Reduced financial costs
🔹 Lowered overall expenditure
🔹 Cut losses by over ₹1,800 crore compared to last year

To enhance user experience, BSNL has introduced new customer-centric innovations, including:
📡 National WiFi Roaming – Seamless connectivity for mobile users
📺 BiTV (Free Entertainment for Mobile Customers) – Free digital entertainment services
🎥 IFTV for FTTH Customers – Exclusive content for broadband users

“Our continuous focus on service quality and customer assurance has strengthened trust and reinforced BSNL’s position as a leading telecom service provider in India,” the CMD stated.
