Budget Session 2025 Kicks Off: Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Economic Survey

January 31, 2025: The 2025 Budget Session of Parliament commenced today with a joint address by President Droupadi Murmu, setting the stage for critical discussions on India’s economy and key legislative reforms. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will follow by tabling the Economic Survey 2024-25 in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

1. President’s Address: The session began with President Murmu’s address, emphasizing the government’s vision and priorities.
2. Economic Survey: Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey, an official assessment of the economy’s performance and future roadmap, prepared under Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran.
3. Key Bills: The government plans to introduce 16 critical bills, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, and more.
4. First Full Budget of Modi 3.0: The much-anticipated full Budget will be presented on February 3, with expectations of changes to income tax slabs and other financial reforms.
5. Session Schedule:
   • First phase: January 31 to February 13.
   • Second phase: March 10 to April 4.
   • The session will include 27 sittings in total.
6. Discussion on Presidential Address: Lok Sabha has allocated February 3-4 for discussing the Motion of Thanks, while Rajya Sabha will debate it over three days.

The session is poised to address significant economic and social challenges while laying down the legislative groundwork for the year ahead.
