Chole Left On Stove, Noida Men Die of Suffocation
January 12, 2025: In a tragic incident, two young men in Noida lost their lives after succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by smoke from food left on a burning stove overnight. The deceased, identified as Upendra (22) and Shivam (23), lived in a rented house in Basai village, Sector 70, and operated a 'chhole bhature' and 'kulche' stall in the area.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajiv Gupta, the two men had placed a pot of chickpeas ('chhole') on the stove on Friday night to prepare for their stall the next day. They then went to sleep, leaving the gas stove burning.

"The room filled with smoke as the food continued to cook. With the door shut, oxygen levels in the room dropped, and a large amount of carbon monoxide accumulated, leading to their suffocation," said ACP Gupta.
Neighbors noticed the smoke a few hours later and broke into the house to find the two unconscious. They were rushed to a nearby hospital in Sector 39, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. No injury marks were found on their bodies, and the police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Carbon monoxide, an odorless and toxic gas, is emitted when fuels burn incompletely in appliances like stoves, ovens, and grills. In enclosed spaces, it can reach deadly levels, posing serious health risks.
The tragic case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of leaving stoves unattended and the importance of proper ventilation in living spaces.
