Real estate sector in shock as police probe suicide during income tax raids

January 31, 2026: The business and real estate community has been jolted by the reported suicide of Dr. C.J. Roy, Chairman and Founder of the Confident Group, in Bengaluru. According to preliminary reports, Dr. Roy allegedly shot himself at his residence while officials from the Income Tax Department were conducting raids at the Confident Group’s office on Richmond Road. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Sources indicate that Dr. Roy had been under severe mental stress due to prolonged income tax scrutiny and repeated questioning over the past few months. However, police officials have maintained that the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been drawn yet. Ballistic and forensic teams have examined the scene, documents are being scrutinised, and a case of self-shooting has been registered based on initial findings.
