Congress and BJP Spar Over Nagpur Violence Amid Curfew

"A 300-Year-Old Legacy of Peace Is Being Tarnished" – Pawan Khera Blames BJP for Unrest

Violent clashes erupt over Aurangzeb’s grave row; curfew imposed in multiple areas to restore order

🔹 Congress Leader Pawan Khera Slams BJP Over Nagpur Violence

Following the violent clashes in Nagpur’s Mahal area, Congress leader Pawan Khera has accused the BJP-led government of failing to maintain law and order. He questioned how such unrest could erupt in a city with a 300-year history of communal harmony, alleging that some political parties were deliberately inciting tensions for political gains.

"A riot broke out in Mahal, the hometown of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. Nagpur has a 300-year-old history, and no such riot has ever happened here before. We should ask why this situation has arisen," Khera said.

He further pointed out that both the Centre and Maharashtra are ruled by the BJP, questioning the administration's lack of preparedness when groups such as VHP and Bajrang Dal protested for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.

"Did the government not make any arrangements to maintain law and order? Why was the situation allowed to escalate?" he asked.

🔹 "Some Parties Are Provoking People" – Khera Warns Against Political Agenda

Accusing certain political groups of instigating tensions, Khera urged citizens to reject divisive politics.

"A game is being played, and Nagpur’s centuries-old history of peace is being turned into a political tool. Do not fall victim to this game. Maintaining peace is in our best interest," he added.

He further called for unity, emphasizing, "A few political parties are provoking people because they believe their political interests lie in this unrest. We must avoid such politics. Peace is important for all of us."

🔹 BJP Calls for Peace, Assures Investigation Into Violence

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP chief and minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule urged residents to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumors, following the violent clashes that left several police personnel injured and resulted in large-scale vandalism and arson.

"The priority is to restore peace and prevent misinformation from spreading. An investigation will determine the root cause of this unrest. The people of Nagpur should not believe in rumors and must support the police administration," Bawankule stated.

He further called on all political parties to unite in maintaining harmony:

"We urge all politicians and citizens to work towards peace. Rioters will be identified and dealt with by the police, but this incident should not be turned into a political issue."

🔹 Curfew Imposed Under Section 163 to Curb Violence

In response to escalating tensions, the Nagpur Police imposed a curfew in multiple areas under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to restore order.

According to an official notification from Maharashtra Police, restrictions will remain in place until further notice in key locations.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal confirmed the strict enforcement of restrictions, emphasizing that authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure peace.

"The situation is being closely monitored, and law enforcement is actively working to prevent further disturbances," the police commissioner stated.
