Congress Announces Major Organisational Overhaul, Vows to Follow Sardar Patel’s Legacy
April 8, 2025: The Congress party is set to undergo a “massive organisational reshuffle” this year, according to senior leader and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, as part of a renewed focus on party structure and grassroots empowerment.
Speaking after the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Venugopal said the restructuring will be comprehensive and accompanied by clear guidelines.
“We are going to have a massive organisational reshuffle. Our general secretaries and in-charges are already working on it,” he stated.
Venugopal emphasized that the Congress aims to empower District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, expanding their authority and responsibilities to help the party deepen its outreach at the grassroots level. Proposals in this regard have already been approved and will soon be implemented.

The Congress also passed a resolution pledging to follow the path of social justice inspired by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with Venugopal declaring, “Our Nyay Path follows the same principles laid down by Sardar Patel.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, in his opening address, reiterated the party’s commitment to Patel’s ideals, criticizing the BJP and RSS for attempting to co-opt his legacy.
“Sardar Patel lives in our hearts and thoughts. We are taking his legacy forward,” said Kharge, adding that the choice of Ahmedabad as the venue was intentional.
Senior leader Sachin Pilot underlined the importance of rebuilding the Congress’ local structure, especially district units.
“The accountability and political strength of DCC presidents will be enhanced. We want a more robust presence at the booth, village, and division levels,” he said.
Pilot emphasized that 2025 is dedicated to the party organisation, highlighting planned padyatras, mass contact programmes, and door-to-door outreach to strengthen the Congress’ base.
“The Congress will fight the upcoming elections with strength, both inside Parliament and out on the streets,” Pilot asserted.
The session’s final resolution, to be named ‘Nyay Path’, will be unveiled on Wednesday during the main AICC convention. More than 1,700 elected and co-opted AICC members will attend the event, held on the banks of the Sabarmati River, between Sabarmati and Kochrab Ashram.
The Congress has themed the session “Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan aur Sangharsh” — a call for justice, dedication, and struggle.
“Tomorrow’s session will write a new chapter in history,” Pilot concluded.
