Kharge, Rahul to address ‘MNREGA Bachao, Kisan Bachao’ rally in Barnala
February 28, 2026: The Indian National Congress is set to kick off its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections with a major rally in Barnala. Titled “MNREGA Bachao, Kisan Bachao,” the event will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, who are scheduled to address a large public gathering. The rally aims to protest alleged attempts to dilute or end the MNREGA law, which the party describes as vital for rural employment and farmers’ welfare.
Congress leaders are expected to use the platform to outline their vision for Punjab and criticise the central government’s policies on employment and agriculture. The event marks a significant political step as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 state elections, seeking to consolidate rural and agrarian support.
Earlier, the party organised a “Kisan Maha Chaupal” in Bhopal as part of a broader outreach strategy focused on farmers and rural voters. With its top leadership present in Barnala, Congress is signalling a renewed grassroots push as it gears up for the electoral contest in Punjab.
