Street View Capture Provides Crucial Clue in Investigation of Disappearance and Murder in Castile and Leon
December 19, 2024: Google Maps, a tool often used for navigation and exploration, played an unexpected role in solving a year-long murder case in Spain. A screenshot from its Street View feature, captured in October 2024, showed a person placing a shrouded object into the trunk of a car in the village of Tajueco.

The investigation began in November 2023, when a missing person’s report was filed for a man in the northern region of Castile and Leon. Police soon arrested two suspects: the missing man’s partner and her ex-partner in Soria province on November 12, according to a police statement released Wednesday.

Crucial Clue from Google Maps
During their search for evidence, investigators uncovered a vital lead through Google Maps. Images from the platform showed a vehicle that matched the description of one potentially used in the crime. The Street View screenshot depicted a person dumping a white-shrouded object into a car trunk, a moment that aligned with the timeline of the disappearance.
While the images were not “decisive” in the case, they significantly aided investigators. Miguel Latorre, the central government’s representative in Soria, told public broadcaster RTVE that the individual captured in the image is believed to be the primary suspect.
Discovery of the Victim
Earlier this month, police located a severely decomposed torso, believed to be the victim’s, in a cemetery in Soria province. Local media identified the victim as a 33-year-old Cuban man.
The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues. A judge has ordered the case to remain open while authorities piece together the full details of the crime.
