In her tweet, the woman explained that she received the information from a friend who was staying at the same hotel as Payne. She wrote: “Mutual friend is in Argentina at the same hotel as Liam Payne and she said he just jumped off his balcony???? There are ambulances everywhere and things are nuts. I sincerely hope he’s okay if this actually happened. Holy smokes dude!!!”

The post began trending as fans and followers expressed shock, with some accusing her of insensitivity. However, the woman quickly clarified that she had no official confirmation and was merely relaying what she had been told, saying, “I didn’t think it would leave my circle. I tweeted, left for an hour or so, and came back to the news of him passing away and the tweet had blown up. Apologies to those who feel I was insensitive, it wasn’t my intention!”

Screenshots of the text exchange between her and her friend in Argentina were also shared in subsequent tweets, further intensifying the online conversation.

The woman later apologised for any perceived insensitivity, stating that she did not expect the situation to escalate in such a tragic manner.
