Despite ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed on Saturday that operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport remain unaffected and are proceeding normally.
“Delhi Airport operations are running smoothly as usual,” read the airport’s latest advisory. “However, due to evolving airspace conditions and enhanced security protocols as directed by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, some flight schedules may experience disruptions, and security checkpoint wait times could be extended.”
To minimize inconvenience, DIAL has urged travelers to take precautionary measures. Passengers are advised to:
- Stay updated with airline notifications
- Follow hand baggage and check-in guidelines
- Arrive early to navigate heightened security
- Cooperate with staff for smooth facilitation
- Verify real-time flight status on the airline’s website or the official Delhi Airport portal
Additionally, the airport authorities warned passengers against relying on unverified sources of information, especially on social media, and emphasized that all official updates would come through regulated channels.
Earlier, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with other aviation regulators, issued Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary suspension of civilian operations at 32 airports across Northern and Western India from May 9 to May 14, 2025.
These include airports in Adhampur, Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Pathankot, and others that lie closer to the India-Pakistan border or in strategic regions. The suspension was attributed to operational considerations amid a volatile security environment.
Tensions escalated further on Saturday morning after India reportedly struck four Pakistani airbases in retaliation to drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on 26 locations across India late Friday. Intermittent cross-border firing continues along the Line of Control, with Indian forces maintaining high alert.
