Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 Shuts for 4 Months from April 15: All IndiGo, Akasa Air Flights Shifted to Terminal 1

With major upgrade work underway at IGIA’s Terminal 2, passengers urged to double-check flight terminals; Terminal 1 to handle full domestic capacity

New Delhi, April 14: Terminal 2 (T2) of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) will remain closed for approximately four months starting April 15, 2025, to facilitate essential repair and upgrade work, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed. All affected domestic flights, including those operated by IndiGo and Akasa Air, will now be managed from Terminal 1 (T1).

IndiGo, Akasa Air Shift Entire Operations to T1

With the closure of T2, IndiGo has shifted all its arrivals and departures to Terminal 1, beginning April 15. The airline has launched a passenger alert system using SMS, calls, and emails to inform flyers about this change. Passengers are encouraged to verify their Passenger Name Record (PNR) on the IndiGo website or app to confirm updated terminal information.

Akasa Air has also announced the complete relocation of its Delhi operations to Terminal 1D, advising all passengers to double-check flight status before heading to the airport.

DIAL’s Precautionary Measures for Passenger Ease

To accommodate the increased traffic, Terminal 1 will operate at full capacity. DIAL is conducting trial runs for baggage transfers between T3 (which handles international flights) and T1 to help domestic-international flyers avoid the burden of transferring their own luggage across terminals.

Currently, no air train system exists between T1 and T3, making inter-terminal connectivity a challenge. DIAL plans to enable airside baggage transfer for passengers with domestic-to-international connections, streamlining the transit process.

Passenger Advisory

  • Check terminal info before departure using airline websites or mobile apps.
  • Arrive early to navigate changes and expected crowding at Terminal 1.
  • For international connections, confirm whether baggage will be transferred automatically to avoid delays.

With these proactive measures, Delhi Airport aims to minimize inconvenience and ensure seamless travel during the four-month upgrade period.
