CM Rekha Gupta announces ambitious plans to transform Delhi’s economy; proposals include enhanced MLA staff support, major capital expenditure, and review of CAG audit on DTC
New Delhi, March 26: The Delhi Assembly will hold pivotal discussions on Wednesday, spotlighting the ₹1 lakh crore Budget for 2025-26, a proposal to increase MLA support staff, and a continuation of deliberations on the CAG’s Performance Audit Report of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will also table the Finance and Appropriation Accounts for the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23 in the Assembly.
According to the official List of Business (LoB), CM Gupta will formally present the financial documents related to Delhi’s government spending for the previous two years.
Among the key proposals on the table is one by MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, who is expected to move a motion seeking an increase in the number of Data Entry Operators assigned to each MLA from two to four. The motion also proposes that their wages be aligned with the Skilled Worker category under the Minimum Wages Act.
In parallel, discussions will continue on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)’s Performance Audit Report regarding the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), which has come under scrutiny in recent years for inefficiencies and financial losses.
Earlier in the day, CM Rekha Gupta presented what she called a “historic budget,” totalling ₹1 lakh crore, aimed at economic revival and infrastructure transformation.
“This is not an ordinary budget. The entire nation is watching Delhi,” Gupta said while addressing the Assembly. “We’re presenting a ₹1 lakh crore budget, which is 31.5% higher than last year. It reflects our vision to transform a struggling economy into a Viksit Delhi (Developed Delhi).”
Among the major budgetary highlights:
- ₹5,100 crore allocated for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, aimed at empowering women.
- ₹28,000 crore earmarked for capital expenditure to boost infrastructure and urban development.
- ₹1,000 crore allocated to improve connectivity with the NCR region, signalling the government’s focus on regional integration and mobility.
The Assembly proceedings mark a turning point in Delhi’s governance trajectory, with CM Gupta steering the capital into a new era of fiscal planning and development-focused reforms.
