Delhi Building Collapse: Several Feared Trapped After 4-Storey Structure Falls in Welcome Area
New Delhi | July 12, 2025 –
A four-storey building collapsed early Saturday morning in the Welcome area of East Delhi, triggering panic and fears of multiple casualties. The incident was reported at 7:05 am, with several people believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police, rushed to the scene shortly after the alarm was raised. As rescue operations continue, officials are yet to confirm the number of occupants or injuries, but eyewitnesses say the building housed several families.
Local authorities have cordoned off the area and have urged people to avoid the vicinity to facilitate unhindered rescue efforts. Ambulances and medical teams are stationed nearby, ready to transport any survivors to nearby hospitals.
Initial visuals from the scene show massive structural damage, with concrete slabs and metal rods strewn across the narrow lane. Rescue teams have begun clearing the debris layer by layer in a race against time to reach any survivors.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Officials suspect structural weakness due to recent heavy rains or possible unauthorized construction. A detailed investigation is expected once the rescue mission concludes.
Residents and local representatives have expressed shock, calling for strict action against any negligence that may have led to the disaster.
Updates on casualties and survivors are awaited as the operation continues.
