February 5, 2025: The Delhi Assembly Election 2025 has officially commenced, with voting underway from 7 am to 6 pm at 13,766 polling stations across the national capital. Among the first prominent figures to cast their vote was President Droupadi Murmu, setting an example of civic participation in this crucial election.

Approximately 1.56 crore voters, including 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, and 1,267 individuals from the third gender, are eligible to vote in this high-stakes election. With 70 constituencies and 699 candidates in the fray, Delhi witnesses a fierce triangular battle among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), BJP, and Congress.

Key Developments:

  1. Kejriwal’s Legal Trouble: AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has been booked for alleging that the Haryana government “poisoned” Yamuna water. He faces BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency.
  2. High-Profile Constituencies: Kalkaji sees a clash of titans with Delhi CM Atishi, Congress’s Alka Lamba, and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri competing for the seat.
  3. Queue Management System App: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced the Queue Management System (QMS) app, allowing voters to check real-time crowd levels at polling booths. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.
  4. Security Measures: Over 30,000 police personnel and 220 paramilitary companies have been deployed to ensure smooth and fair voting.
  5. Exit Poll Restrictions: The ECI has banned exit polls from 7 am to 6:30 pm on February 5.
