Delhi-NCR Set for Light Rains and Thunderstorms as Monsoon Officially Arrives
Delhi | July 1, 2025 —The southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), two days ahead of schedule. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the week, offering much-needed respite from the rising summer temperatures.
While no weather alerts have been issued for Tuesday, residents of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad should be prepared for intermittent light to moderate showers with occasional thunderstorms.
On June 29, the IMD announced that the monsoon had fully advanced into Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, marking its complete coverage of the Indian mainland nine days ahead of schedule — compared to the usual July 8 date.
“The southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and entire Delhi… It covered the entire country on 29th June 2025,” the IMD statement read.
While Delhi-NCR is likely to remain under light rain, IMD has issued red alerts for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where landslides, flash floods, and building collapses have already been reported.
