Favorable Weather Conditions, Rain Help Improve Air Quality in the Capital

March 15, 2025: Delhi residents breathed the cleanest air in three years on Saturday, March 15, as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 85—the lowest recorded for the January to March period since 2022. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) hailed the improvement, marking it as the first “Satisfactory” air quality day of 2025.

📊 According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB):

  • Anand Vihar AQI: 80
  • Alipur AQI: 48 (Recorded as “Good”)

AQI Categories:

  • 0-50 → Good ✅
  • 51-100 → Satisfactory ✅
  • 101-200 → Moderate ⚠️
  • 201-300 → Poor ❌
  • 301-400 → Very Poor 🚨
  • 401-500 → Severe 🚨🚨

Delhi’s rainfall, strong winds, and favorable weather played a crucial role in reducing pollution levels.


GRAP Stage 1 Restrictions Lifted

With air quality improving significantly, the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) Stage-1 restrictions—which curb construction activities, waste burning, and diesel vehicle use—were revoked by CAQM.

🔹 Why?

  • Favorable meteorological conditions helped improve air quality.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts satisfactory to moderate AQI in the coming days.

The government has also urged agencies to sustain the improved air quality and prevent a return to “Poor” category levels.
