Delhi Wakes Up to Monsoon Relief: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Yellow Alert in Place

Light to moderate showers cool down Delhi-NCR on Monday morning; IMD issues yellow alert with more rain and thunderstorms expected over the next two days.

July-7, 2025: Residents of Delhi-NCR were greeted with welcome showers on Monday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the rising heat and humidity. Despite a largely dry and humid Sunday, the overnight rain marked the beginning of a wet spell that is expected to continue through the week. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 35°C, while the minimum temperature rose slightly to 28.8°C.

Forecast: Cloudy Skies and Stable Temperatures Ahead

The IMD predicts a generally cloudy sky with intermittent rain for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures likely to stabilize between 32°C to 34°C through the week. From Wednesday to Sunday, Delhi is expected to witness very light to light rainfall.

The yellow alert signifies potential moderate weather activity, prompting residents to remain cautious while also enjoying a reprieve from soaring summer heat.

Rain Extends to Neighbouring States

The monsoon system is intensifying across North India, with Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab also expected to receive rainfall over the next two days. While this means greener surroundings and cooler temperatures, residents should prepare for longer traffic delays due to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Delhi’s Air Quality Sees Improvement

Adding to the good news, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained satisfactory. According to IMD data, AQI values ranged from 66 at Lodhi Road to 90 at Siri Fort. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) categorizes AQI levels between 51 and 100 as satisfactory, indicating breathable air across the region.

Conclusion

With the rains finally arriving in force, Delhiites can expect cooler weather, cleaner air, and a refreshing break from humidity. However, the IMD advises staying alert as thunderstorms and lightning are forecast for early parts of the week.
