Demolition After Uttam Nagar Murder
MCD razes illegal property linked to accused as Holi clash death probe continues
March 8, 2026: Authorities in Delhi have launched strict action following the murder of a 26-year-old man in Uttam Nagar during Holi celebrations. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out a demolition drive against a property allegedly linked to one of the accused, identified as Nizamuddin, after officials found illegal construction during an inspection. Police said seven accused, including a minor, have been detained so far as the investigation into the violent incident continues.
According to police, the violence began after a dispute erupted when a water balloon thrown during Holi celebrations allegedly hit a woman from another community. The argument quickly escalated as members of both families gathered on the street, leading to a physical clash. During the confrontation, several people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Among the injured was 26-year-old Tarun, who later succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Thursday, intensifying tensions in the locality. Police said the case was initially registered under Sections 110 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, but after the victim’s death, Section 103(1) related to murder was added to the FIR. Authorities have deployed heavy police presence in the area to maintain law and order while the investigation continues.
