Dense Fog Disrupts Delhi-NCR: Flights Delayed Amid Warmer January Trends

Fog blankets Delhi-NCR, causing travel disruptions; January records its warmest temperatures since 2019.

February 1, 2025: New Delhi: Dense fog shrouded Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Saturday morning, impacting visibility and prompting travel advisories from the Indira Gandhi International Airport and major airlines. IndiGo Airlines issued a statement warning of possible disruptions, urging passengers to plan their travel accordingly.

At 8:30 am, Delhi recorded a temperature of 11.3°C, with FlightRadar24 data indicating an average delay of 26 minutes for departures.

January ended on a warmer note for the capital, with Friday’s maximum temperature soaring to 27°C, the highest for the month since 2019.

  • The month’s average maximum temperature was 21.1°C, a full degree above the long-period average of 20.1°C.
  • Meteorologists attributed the unusually warm January to the absence of strong western disturbances, which typically bring rainfall and cooler conditions to the region.

Foggy Conditions Beyond Delhi:

Dense fog also enveloped parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


Air Quality Update:

Delhi’s air quality remains a concern, with levels hovering in the “very poor” category. Improvements are expected only after February 3, as per IMD forecasts.
