Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi, Visibility Hits Zero in Several Areas

Fog disrupts visibility in Delhi and neighbouring regions; train schedules affected, flights operating with caution.

January 15, 2025: New Delhi and its neighbouring cities woke up to a dense blanket of fog on Wednesday morning as cold wave conditions persisted across northern India. Visibility dropped to zero in several areas, raising concerns over road, rail, and air travel.

The national capital recorded a morning temperature of 9°C, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting foggy conditions to persist into the evening and night. Light rain is also expected later in the day.

Despite the heavy fog, flight operations at Delhi Airport remain unaffected for now, although delays could occur for flights that are not CAT III compliant. "While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for updated flight information," stated an airport advisory.

Train schedules were significantly impacted, with at least 39 trains reported running late by 6:30 am on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality continues to hover in the "poor" category, adding to the woes of residents.

The IMD has predicted that the cold wave and dense fog conditions will likely persist in the coming days, urging caution for those traveling in affected regions.
