
Deven Bharti Appointed Mumbai Police Commissioner: A Look at His Career and Credentials
April 30, 2025: A 1994-batch IPS officer and specialist in law and order, Bharti replaces Vivek Phansalkar as Mumbai’s top cop, with a track record including key roles during the 26/11 attacks and leadership of the ATS.
Senior IPS officer Deven Bharti has officially been appointed the new Commissioner of Mumbai Police, succeeding Vivek Phansalkar, who retired after 35 years of service. Bharti, currently serving as Special Commissioner, will formally assume charge later this evening.

Bharti is considered a trusted officer of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, having served as Joint CP (Law & Order) during Fadnavis’s previous tenure as Chief Minister. His elevation comes as Mumbai faces complex law enforcement challenges amid heightened geopolitical tensions and urban crime.
