EC releases revised voter list after Special Intensive Revision ahead of 2026 polls
February 28, 2026: The Election Commission of India on Saturday released West Bengal’s updated electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), a significant step ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Voters can check their names on the Commission’s official websites, eci.gov.in and ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in, as well as through the ECI Net mobile application. The revised lists are also available at district and sub-divisional offices and designated polling stations across West Bengal.
The draft rolls, published on December 16, recorded a sharp drop in the electorate from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore, with more than 58 lakh names deleted due to death, migration, duplication or voters being untraceable. In the second phase, hearings were conducted for 1.67 crore electors. Officials said 1.36 crore cases were flagged for “logical discrepancies,” while 31 lakh lacked proper mapping. Around 60 lakh voters remain under adjudication.
The statewide revision, the first comprehensive exercise since 2002, followed months of verification and scrutiny amid political debate. Supplementary rolls will be issued in phases as pending cases are resolved, enabling voters to verify and update their details before the crucial 2026 Assembly elections.
