Eclipse Debate Sparks Astrology vs Science Clash

Panelists differ on impact of ‘Ring of Fire’ solar event

February 17, 2026: Although the annular “Ring of Fire” solar eclipse is not visible in India and the traditional Sutak period does not apply, a televised discussion reignited debate over its broader impact. Astrologers on the panel argued that every natural event generates consequences, claiming eclipses influence nature and even subtle life forms. They cited ancient Indian scriptures and traditional astronomical calculations as evidence that eclipses were studied thousands of years ago, long before modern scientific research formalised such observations.

In contrast, rationalists and scientists maintained that eclipses are purely astronomical phenomena with no proven effect on human life. They stressed that science relies on observation, calculation and prediction, noting that ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Greece also independently tracked celestial movements using mathematical models. The experts clarified that this particular annular eclipse will primarily be visible in Antarctica and only for a brief period.

As the discussion progressed, attention shifted toward astrology, with predictions offered for zodiac signs including Aries and Taurus. Suggested mantras and traditional remedies were also shared for viewers interested in spiritual interpretations. The exchange highlighted the continuing divide between faith-based beliefs and scientific reasoning in interpreting celestial events.
