Egg Seller, Juice Vendor Get ₹50-Crore GST Notices: Victims of Massive Document Fraud?

Two small-time vendors — an egg seller in Madhya Pradesh and a juice vendor in Uttar Pradesh — have found themselves at the center of a bewildering tax nightmare.

Both received GST notices worth several crores, with authorities alleging they were involved in massive financial transactions — through companies neither of them even knew existed.
In Damoh, Prince Suman, who sells eggs on a cart, was stunned to receive a notice claiming he owes ₹6 crore in GST. According to tax officials, a Delhi-based company called Prince Enterprises was registered in his name in 2022 — dealing in leather, wood, and iron trading, with over ₹49 crore in alleged transactions.
“I’ve never been to Delhi, let alone started a company there,” said Prince, who lives in Pathariya Nagar.
His father, who runs a tiny grocery shop, added:
“If we really had ₹50 crore, why would we be living like this?”
The family has filed a police complaint, suspecting identity theft. Their lawyer confirmed that someone likely misused Prince’s personal documents to open the fake firm.
In Aligarh, Md Rahees, who runs a juice stall, received an even bigger jolt — a GST notice for ₹7.79 crore over alleged “bogus transactions” in 2020-21.
“I have never seen so much money in my life. I just sell juice. Why would I be involved in such things?” Rahees told reporters.
The I-T department demanded a breakdown of transactions and financial records Rahees doesn’t have — because he never made them.
Shockingly, sources now say Rahees’s documents were allegedly used to funnel crores in donations to the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections — a scam still under investigation.
Both families have appealed to the government and tax authorities for protection, fearing that they’ll be wrongfully penalized for crimes committed using stolen identities.
Rahees’s mother pleaded,
“We struggle for two square meals. If we had crores, would my son be on the streets selling juice?”
