41 BRO Workers Still Trapped as Heavy Snowfall Hampers Efforts; Home Minister, Army Step In

New Delhi, February 28: A large-scale rescue operation is underway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district after a massive avalanche struck near Mana village, trapping 57 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers under snow. So far, 16 workers have been rescued, while efforts continue to free the remaining 41.

“Our focus is on rescuing a maximum number of people. The Union Home Minister has been monitoring the operation closely and has given clear directions to save every life,” said NDRF Director General Piyush Anand.

Rescue Efforts Intensify Despite Harsh Weather

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed four teams, while a 65-member rescue team is working tirelessly despite continuous snowfall.

“The situation is difficult due to heavy snowfall. Helicopter services are not possible right now, but the rescue mission is in full force,” said Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman.

🏥 Rescued workers are receiving treatment at the ITBP hospital in Mana.

PMO, Home Ministry, and Army Fully Engaged

🔹 Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to ITBP and NDRF chiefs, ensuring top-priority evacuation efforts.
🔹 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that army units are providing full assistance.
🔹 Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is directly overseeing rescue efforts and remains in touch with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“Rescue operations are ongoing. The PMO and Home Ministry are in direct contact with us. We are doing everything possible,” CM Dhami assured.
