Fierce Gunbattle Erupts in Kulgam, a Day After Pahalgam Massacre Killed 26 Tourists
New Delhi | April 23, 2025
A fierce encounter is currently underway between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam’s Tanimarg area of Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed on Wednesday evening. The fresh exchange of fire comes just a day after 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, and hours after two infiltrators were gunned down near the Line of Control in Baramulla district.
The ongoing operation signals heightened security tensions in the region, with forces maintaining a high alert in the wake of back-to-back terror incidents.
Officials have not yet confirmed the number of terrorists involved in the Kulgam gunbattle or any casualties on either side. Reinforcements have been rushed to the site, and the area has been cordoned off.

The security grid has been intensified across the Kashmir Valley as agencies continue to investigate the Pahalgam attack, for which the Pakistan-backed Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility.
The encounter in Kulgam underscores the volatile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, even as national leaders and global voices continue to condemn the Pahalgam massacre.
Further updates on the operation are awaited.
