Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri To Brief Shashi Tharoor-Led Panel On India-Pak Tensions

Parliamentary committee to review diplomatic, military, and strategic fallout of Operation Sindoor and recent cross-border escalation

May 19, 2025: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to brief the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday regarding the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. The committee, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will assess India’s diplomatic stance, military strategy, and regional implications following the military escalation.

The meeting gains urgency following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians and prompted swift retaliation from Indian forces. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting multiple terror hubs across the border. The strikes triggered a four-day military confrontation, which ended with a ceasefire agreement on May 10.

According to sources, Mr. Misri’s briefing will cover the current status of India-Pakistan diplomatic engagement, the evolving regional security architecture, and how India plans to recalibrate its foreign policy in light of growing cross-border threats. The panel will also likely discuss implications for global diplomatic outreach, especially with delegations currently deployed to 32 countries to present India’s stance on terrorism.
