New Delhi, December 27: India mourns the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, who passed away on Thursday evening at AIIMS, Delhi, at the age of 92, due to age-related health complications.
Sources confirmed that all government programs scheduled for Friday have been canceled, and a seven-day national mourning has been declared across the country. The Union Cabinet is set to meet at 11 AM today to offer condolences, and Dr. Singh’s last rites will be conducted with full state honors.
Additionally, the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced a state holiday on December 27, joining the nation in mourning the loss of one of India’s most respected leaders.
Political leaders across party lines, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, expressed their deep condolences on Dr. Singh’s passing.
AIIMS Delhi issued an official statement detailing the timeline of events:
“With profound grief, we inform the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26, 2024.
